[Songs and Salads] [Second Skin][Merrily Polluted] [Time Flies When You're Having Fun][Compilation-CDs]

What it's actually about: the music. Snakes in Exile saw the light during the 'morning after' of the university period. Since 1985, Gert and Luc happened to 'perform' at college parties and weddings in several formations. The repertoire was based on 60's and 70's music in different styles spiced up with rocky and poppy original stuff. Even then, two of the core elements of the Snakes in exile sound were present: a clear interest in vocal harmonies and a great sense of fun. Vocal harmonies were also part of Luc and Peter's first experiments in music. All this was the consequence of lively après ski parties where the two of them met. Forming a trio seemed to be a logical next step in their career. The a-capella version of 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' came to life in this period and can be admired on Second Skin. The Celtic element came in at a later moment in time, after having met the Louvain based folk band Black Velvet. The prehistory of the band members still shows clearly in the non purist approach of the Celtic element. Although the band focuses on Celtic folk, they happen to allow themselves to branch out into various styles, in covers as well as in their own material. All this, mixed with the live atmosphere and vocal harmonies gives Snakes in Exile their characteristic sound that distinguishes them from other folk bands.
The Snakes sound is captured for ever on 4 albums: 'Songs and salads', 'Second skin', 'Merrily Polluted' and ‘Time flies when you’re having fun’. Snakes material can also be found on six compilation-CDs.
